Technology

So I accepted the challenge of not using technology for 24 hours and it was extremely difficult for me. I am used to being able to check facebook to see what my friends are up to and if anyone has "poked" me and what not. I am used to being able to text and check the time on my phone. I am used to being able to go to weather.com and see how Vermont's climate is slowly becoming the bane of my existence, and I am used to being able to use to watch my favorite TV series at night. I am used to being able to push shuffle on my ipod and let The Kooks take me away for hours on end.
All of these actions and thing are such a norm in my life at first i had a realization that I was/am far to dependent on electronics everyday in my life to complete brainless tasks. I had no idea what I was going to do aside from eat sleep and repeat, but then i remembered "hey, I play guitar!" So, i currently just got done playing for about 4 hours and it was fantastic. This challenge really helped me because it made me realize that I need to prioritize what is important to me in my life, and that is what I need to make time for, doing what I love. it was an epiphany to say the least.
On a larger scale if this challenged spark all this inside me, and lead me to a realization I believe that we as Americans and everyone around the world are becoming to reliant on our techno devices, regardless if its a GPS or automatic back scratcher. We need to disconnect and unplug ourselves to truly become more social and enjoy life. I refuse to end up in a Bruce Willis movie like Surrogates.
