I will say this that in the 24 hour period (that I was not sleeping) I did a ton of homework, and because I felt like a seriously had nothing else to do I ended up starting some of my projects for classes ahead of time. Now in general that is not such a bad thing, but like 5 hours of homework straight is pretty pathetic. I didn't realize how badly so much of my social life depended on technology, at least I can blame some of it on the fact my best friends went to schools so far away.
I think that I followed this assignment better than I thought I would. But to be honest I definitely caved...a little. My weakness was my cell phone. I didn't turn it off, thinking that something serious would happen with my family and just because it would be the one time I wasn't available. So to be on the safe side I left my cell phone on, but just kept it on the desk...then I saw that little blinking red light, which of course meant I had a message. I couldn't resist, it was some friends from home telling me they were finally able to come and visit me at school. I still can't decide if I feel bad about answering the text and thus failing the assignment or just glad because I finally managed to see some friends from home.
With this type of assignment I can't imagine how it must have been for the kids who like have their phones attached to their hands always using it. Besides having an irrational fear that my family would need to reach my, not using communicative technology was relatively okay, I just never want to do it again.
This was definitely an eye opening assignment, I'm finding it hard to imagine how people survived without all of the things at my generations disposal today. Well needless to say I am so glad that this little experiment is over, and glad that I have all of my technological toys back at my disposal. I'm curious to see how everyone else in class fared compared to me.
