I think that there is a difference between false ads and misleading ads, sometimes it can be hard to define which one is which. I’d call this false advertising because a private company or “for-profit” college is using another university or school to direct Internet users to their colleges, and not the one originally “searched” for. I know it can be argued that people don’t have to stay on that site once they have noticed that it is not the correct website, but now and days people are “lazy” and they are content with any website they don’t want to work too hard, everything is just good enough.
I guess that can bring me to my next point. Most of the colleges that are “false” advertising are desperate almost looking for anyone. The type of person that is too lazy to find the right website, for the college that they are interested in are likely to be content applying or being redirected to another school recruiting and directing so many people to them. People with a solid head on their shoulders, with a good future planned ahead will take the time to find the correct school, put the time in, visit, there is so much more to college searching than sitting on your ass at home if you care about your life.
I fully agree with this shadow finally being exposed, people need to know about the shadiness of these “for-profit” schools. I do not understand, if they are putting so much money into these online scams, why cant they advertise like any other respectable college in the world. To me its ridiculous that the colleges that are being falsely advertised are allowing this to be as ok as it is. It was said in the article that online searches for colleges that leave a bad impression on the searcher, are likely to be disinterested and pushed away. Colleges cant be content with people being turned away from their school due to something that they had no control over or didn’t even know about it.
