I think what Wallace is trying to say here is that you don’t really know what is going on in other people’s lives. You should respect what other people are doing in their lives and not get angry at them, because they could have a worse off life than you. I think the example that he made with rush hour traffic was a perfect example that I could relate to. When I used to come home from work I would always hit rush hour traffic and be really angry at everyone because my life was really getting stressful. With getting ready for college and everything going on in my personal life I just wanted to get home, so that I could cook, eat dinner, and prepare for college. It has really made me re-think of the things I did in rush hour traffic to get home quickly. I have probably pissed off a lot of people that had other things going on in their lives that was more important than mine. This makes me think on how to react to other people, because like Wallace said, “maybe she's been up three straight nights holding the hand of her husband who's dying of bone cancer, or maybe this very lady is the low-wage clerk at the Motor Vehicles Dept. who just yesterday helped your spouse resolve a nightmarish red-tape problem through some small act of bureaucratic kindness.” You should always be friendly to other people because you know what, someday you could be the one that has really big things going on in your personal life like, a family member dying. If and when that comes around, I believe if you were nice to other people during their hard times then karma could come back around and help you out.
