After reading what Taibbi was saying I understood the occupy movement better. I also understood the problems in our society better. I understood occupy as people who were seriously pissed off at Wall Street and were seriously angry with what was going on. I had no idea that people were depicting these people as hippies who were jealous of the rich and just looking for attention. I truly agree with his statement that “the banking system, a huge heartless machine that attaches itself to you at an early age, and from which there is no escape.” Most jobs now require you to do direct depositing. The only way you can something online is through a credit/debit card. Banks take huge advantage of this and reel you in and make you do all this stuff and put so much on your card and hold your checks and then give then put them on your money on your cards and it is all just stupid and no one uses cash anymore.
I also agree with that fact that OWS is not just a ton of hippies getting attention but people who want a change. They want a new life where they aren’t being torn down by the economy. They want to a place where we aren’t being attacked by the police because the government pays them and the government has all of the power. Even during a peaceful protest where we as American citizens have the right to speak freely. My favorite part though was when he was saying how instead of harming the innocent people who are being peaceful they should be arresting the people stealing from others and getting the people their money back. “They should be heading up into those skyscrapers and going through the file cabinets to figure out who stole what, and from whom. They should be helping people get their money back. Instead, they're out on the street, helping the Blankfeins of the world avoid having to answer to the people they ripped off.”
