Twilight Essay

Unfortunately I have to say that I am totally a Twilight fan, and to make it worse, I was one of those obnoxious fans who went to the midnight selling of "Breaking Dawn." What can I say, I'm a sucker for a good romance story. But I loved those books before they became popular and they just sucked me, I could not rest until I had read them all, and until I have seen all of the movies.
I thought it was interesting reading this essay because some of the information I never really thought about, but when outlined with the essay makes complete sense. For instance Bella is made to be as plan as possible so that the reader can essentially insert herself into Bella's life, the essay author called her character a "vessel" and honestly an appropriate comparison. Bella was definitely a character that made it easy to relate to in many ways. What girl can't say that she doesn't want some gorgeous, and all around perfect guy to come and sweep her off her feet? Now as nice as it was to read and fantasize about such fairy tales I am honest enough to know and admit that Bella's story does not happen in real life. The rich boys play with the rich girls and everyone just sticks to their own social groups.
As a girl it was easy to be drawn to the "Twilight" series, I liked the romantic escape and to be honest I liked the total ridiculousness of the vampire vs werewolf thing. Who wants to deal with an everyday boring life when you can be trapped a heart moving fantasy fiction, that just lets you forget about your boring everyday life.
I also thought it was interesting that the essay article came right out and said that yes Bella was under deserving of Edward but that "the two are ideally suited to each other" it's actually a relief that someone flat at said that. Maybe it's cold of me to believe that stories (excluding the supernatural angle) life Bella's just doesn't come true. I can't really explain why but I just don't believe in the rich perfect boy falling for the under privileged girl, who isn't all that beautiful but more of a plain "Jane." The real world just ins't as pretty as a story. Not to mention the only reason Edward was "attracted" to Bella in the first place was because 1) her blood smelled extra delicious to him and 2) he couldn't read her mind, so he could actually have a meaningful conversation with her not knowing everything instead of having to be bored with everything she ever thought about.
Trying to look at a less pessimistic angle of "Twilight" I like to think that maybe it can give some people (mainly girls) some hope and confidence in their selves. That like plain old Bella they too will have that exciting and sought after romance, with the perfect guy. Now I'm not saying that they should expect to end up with some super gorgeous male model, but whose not to say that there isn't an amazing guy out there who would be an awesome person with a lot to offer a relationship. I don't believe in fairy tale romances but I do believe in true love, just in a more realistic manor. I think this article did a really good job at picking apart "Twilight" for what it was really worth, it was refreshing...and that's coming from a true "Twilight" fan.
