Facebook who needs it

My 24 hours without technology wasn't too different from the normal day. I've never had the urge to keep looking at my phone or computer repeatedly unless theres a task at hand. Todays youth is so concentrated and feels the need of always being updated and aware of new things. It was actually quite a relaxing day I spent the majority of it outside skating the Burton bowl when I didn't have class.

When I think about Facebook, I think of a drug. I think of a bunch of creeps hovering over their computer getting their Facebook fix. I'm sure not many users are like that but I can say that there are a good amount of them that spend most of their day on their computer scanning Facebook for updates and statuses, and on their phone. I've definitely have seen people who actually bug out when they aren't able to access Facebook when they want to. On the Facebook login page it says, "Facebook helps you connect and share with the people in your life". Sure you can talk to family and friends, but do you need Facebook as a means to socially be connected to them? Whats wrong with phones or possibly even get off of the computer and see them in real life? They need to feel updated with the world.... One status at a time.

Now I'm sure not all Facebook users are stalkers, the ones who do use it to benefit in some way other than creeping on it have good reasoning. I know that Facebook is a super good tool of finding new music, videos, events and it's also one way faster to hear about news than an actual news station on television. It's an instant update. I think that if people spent more time caring and looking for useful resources on Facebook rather than who's in a relationship with who, Facebook would be a lot different.

I had a Facebook at one point a while ago and I just couldn't take it anymore. The amount of stalking and creeping that is available is pretty amazing. Sure it was great to be able to see what my buddies are up to in Colorado and so on, but it gets to a point where I think 90% of what people read on Facebook is unimportant and unwanted.

Facebook has it's ups and downs for sure, but I am perfectly content on the way I am connected with my family and friends without it.
