I am not one to watch the news much, but I have heard about the debate going on about birth control and how it should be covered by insurance companies. Personally, I think that it should be covered by more insurance companies. Contraceptives have been used for years and I don’t believe that anyone should be called a slut for using them or expecting them to be covered by insurance companies. It isn’t used for just sex, but even if people are using it because of that, who cares. It is their life and if you think about it, would you rather have insurance companies providing birth control or have woman having babies they can’t provide for?  It makes more sense to me to have the insurance companies cover the cost of birth control than to have to provide families with benefits like food stamps, housing, welfare, etc. all because they couldn’t afford the pill.

Another reason that I think it should be covered is because it isn’t just used for sex. A lot of people I know my age use it for health related issues. Some women wouldn’t be able to go on and do things in their everyday life without it. I think that every woman should have the choice if they want to be on birth control if they want it and that the cost shouldn’t be an issue. In doing so, I think that insurance companies should cover the cost of birth control because compared to a woman having a kid, it is a lot less expensive.
