We're Not So Different You and I

This speech never said anything about where the education would get them in the job or career world, he touched something much more important. I agree with Jillian, he made it clear that they had a choice to make. Now I really see it as a fork in the road with just two ways to go, which is seeing how an education can open your mind or down a regular path like every other “ huge, stupid, lane-blocking SUV’s and Hummers”. Really he only addressed the mind opening, culture awakening, were all Gods children philosophy that we are all the same, we are all human beings.

This is solely about moral construction, I feel as if arrogance is merely immaturity and lack of cultural education. It’s about proving stereotypes wrong and giving people chances see where they are coming from before we immediately abolish their beliefs. Because technically they are just as correct following their beliefs, as you are yours. See the world from another person’s eyes and lifestyle for a day, because at the end of the day when you sit down and reflect, throughout the course of that day I am sure countless things overlapped lifestyle. No matter where it was, the grocery store, at work, driving home, we all have way more in common and the same personal morals and reasons to get through the day there is no need to be tight minded. People are people.

Yes I understand I’ve strayed far off topic but I really see that this speech was given to make all of the people listening open their minds and be accepting. I agree with him in the commencement speech when he says “but your own are so immediate, urgent, real.” (Bottom of page two) our thoughts should come first, they are most important and urgent and pressing, they are ours! I think as people in a whole we need to know that our thoughts and feelings do come first, but just as right as our thoughts are, another person’s totally different thought and perception is totally correct too.

  1. I actually don't think you strayed off-topic at all, Wyatt. In fact, I think what you've written matters and I hope you bring this idea of relativism vs. empathy back up in class today. -- MK
