So there is a time in every young adolescence life where they need to start looking at college. It is very difficult to physically go to a lot of colleges and tour them around. So using sites like College Bound and College Surfing is very convenient to people interested in going to college. You have to be careful with these types of sites though, because if you use some search engines they might land you onto a different college’s website and may accidently apply for that school rather than the one you intended to apply to. For example if you search on Google for a certain school, it may pull up an ad on the side to trick you into applying for a different school.
Something should be done to stop this event from happening. It is pretty hard to restrict everything on the internet since there is so much stuff out there, but I am sure that we could crack down a little better on these types of trick web sites. These trick sites are just trying to make some money. Just like the article said, “lead-generation Web sites like College Bound are under constant pressure to find ways to deliver prospective students to their clients, which can pay $25 or more per lead.” With over millions of kids doing college searches, these sites can make so much money, it is ridiculous.
All in all to me this is very awful to do this, because it is already a stressful thing to look at colleges, these websites just have to make it more difficult. This is very wrong to do and the Government should shut these sites down because they are very misleading.
